Permanent, Part-time Kitchen and Cafe Assistant
We’re recruiting an experienced, parti-time kitchen & café assistant to work at Hopkins. Our aim is to serve delicious homemade food and drinks in a warm and welcoming environment, whilst enhancing the lives of our students. We provide excellent produce supplied by some of Yorkshire’s finest suppliers. This is a rare opportunity for the right person; not only will you be working with customers in the cafe, but you will also be involved with students with learning disabilities. Horticap provides students with learning disabilities a supportive and friendly working environment, so that they can develop their social and communication abilities. We aim to help students extend their knowledge and skills through structured support using professionally qualified staff and volunteers at our non-profit organisation. Read on for full details.
Three days per week, including weekends. Up-to-date DBS check prior to employment. Rate of pay: £11.44 per hour dependent. Pension available.
Job Description:
• Working in the kitchen and café
• Providing outstanding customer service
• Opening up and closing down of the café
• Helping & coaching students and volunteers
• Cooking & serving food to the required standards
• Setting up food displays for counter service
• Following food safety systems and recording evidence
• Following recipes & food specs to the required standards.
• Making & serving specialty hot & cold drinks
• Preparing & cooking cakes & treats
• Ensuring the kitchen & café areas are clean & tidy at all times
• Placing food orders with suppliers & receiving deliveries
• Stock control & rotation
• Using a till to take payments, cashing up, recording takings & costs.
Person Specification
• Experience of working in a café and kitchen
• Excellent cooking & baking skills or chef background
• Personally well presented
• Excellent punctuality
• Experience of HACCP & COSHH systems.
• Excellent customer service & communication skills
• Have a current Basic Food Hygiene certificate or higher or willing to work towards.
• Barista trained or similar experience (desirable)
• Able to work alone as required
• Experience of Epos till system or similar (desirable, training will be provided)
• Be willing to work with and help develop Horticap students
• Understanding of supply deliveries & first in first out procedures.
