One type of therapy that has got many of us through this past year is our love of gardening. Getting our hands dirty digging, planting, and pruning has many benefits for both physical and mental health. The combination of being outdoors, physical activity, vitamin D, and focussing our minds on something other than the pandemic is just what the doctor ordered. And there’s a real sense of achievement seeing your plants thrive.
Now we’re in May, it’s time to think about creating your own festival of flowers this summer with our fantastic range of bedding plants and perennials. We know you’ll love exploring our garden centre, with its huge glasshouse bursting at the seams with begonias, geraniums, petunias, shrubs, and much more. What about a gorgeous clematis or fragrant rose to perk up a boring wall or fence? We even have some gentle acers to bring a stunning colour display as autumn approaches. If you prefer to propagate the plants yourself, check out our range of seeds in the gift shop.
As we’re now all a bit more discerning about where our food comes from, ‘growing your own’ is more popular than ever. You’ll find a selection of young fruit, vegetable, and herb plants at Horticap, including tomatoes, strawberries, and even pumpkin. Happy plants need the right environment, so we also sell peat-free compost and plant food.
If you’re struggling about which plant will suit a shady spot or clay soil, there should be someone on hand to offer you some friendly advice.
For people with busy lifestyles or those who aren’t able to get out to visit us, you can buy mixed plant boxes online, and we’ll deliver them to your door! Even if you don’t have green fingers, you can still create a festival of flowers this summer with our help.
Apart from offering quality plants that represent great value, when you buy from Horticap, you know your money is helping a vital charity to train adults with learning and other disabilities in horticulture, allied crafts, and rural skills.
We’re open 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday. You can find us at Horticap Ltd, Bluecoat Wood Nurseries, Otley Road, Harrogate, HG3 1QL. See you soon!
